In the background are Kunming’s Western Hills, which were particularly welcomed landmarks to USAAF and CNAC transport aircrews that flew supplies into China on the “Hump” air route. Once past these hills and over Lake Dianchi, the transport crews were on their final approach to the main airfield at Kunming, which meant that they had survived another trip over the often deadly “Hump.” |
