JACK GALLAGHER Gallagher joined the Army Air Force in early 1942 and was initially trained as a navigator, however once the Army Air Force realized that Gallagher had already earned a civilian pilot's license, he was assigned to liaison pilot training. As an liasion pilot, Gallagher joined the Army Air Force's First Air Commando Group that was flying in support of British and Chinese ground operations in Burma. Flying unarmed L-I and L-5 light liaison aircraft Gallagher would serve in Burma for more than two years and fly more than 500 combat missions - many of which were among the most challenging and dangerous missions flown by the Army Air Force during the whole of the Second World War.
