GENERAL MISSION OF THE FOUNDATION
The
primary mission of the Foundation is to enhance friendship and
understanding between the United States and the People's Republic of
China. Through the efforts
of its highly respected membership, SAAHF will organize a number of
commemorative events and activities that will recall and celebrate the
shared aviation heritage of the two countries. These commemorative
undertakings will give the citizens of both countries, especially their
younger generations, the opportunity to be exposed to, and better
understand the significance of this shared heritage.
It
is the strongly held belief of the Foundation's founding members, that
by more fully understanding our common past, both nations will be able
to build a more secure future. Along
with its many planned commemorative projects, the Foundation will also
develop, promote and foster a number of non-governmental exchanges
between aviation-minded individuals, groups, organizations and
institutions in both countries.
Specifically,
the Foundation will directly support and participate in activities
related to preserving the shared history of the regions of China and
Burma where American personnel fought, or provided support to Chinese
fighting forces. These
activities will include the exploration of the region, marking of
locations that have historical significance, identify and map ground and
air routes used during the conflict, and where practicable, locate and
identify the remains of aircraft and installations.
The foundation will also work to identify opportunities in the
region for historical and cultural development, tourism, and other
related economic development activities of mutual interest.
