# 11. Retired Air Force Colonel Harold Fischer, one of America’s most successful jet fighter aces is seen exiting the cockpit of a Chinese MiG-15 jet fighter while visiting the China Aviation Museum as a participant in the Flying Tigers Association’s 1997 China Tour.  Colonel Fischer was shot down and taken prisoner while flying over Chinese territory during a Korean War fighter sweep.

 
 


APRIL 2001
# 12.  As Executive Director of the SAAHF, Jeff Greene was invited to participate in a civic and business leaders tour of Air Force facilities in Texas and New Mexico.  Pictured from left to right are, Flight Engineer, Senior Master Sgt. Marc Gilbertson, Greene and pilot, Captain Todd Kay on the flight deck of an Air Guard C-130 enroute to Randolf AFB, Texas.  Sergeant Gilbertson and Captain Kay are members of the 96th Airlift Squadron, “Flying Vikings” of the Minnesota Air National Guard.

#13. AVG fighter ace and Flying Tigers Association President, John "Dick"  Rossi accepts the SAAHF’s Arthur Chin Aviation Achievement Award from SAAHF Executive Director, Jeff Greene, SAAHF Executive Committee member, Simon Shim and SAAHF Founding Board member and former United States Air Force Association President, Oliver Crawford.  The Flying Tigers Association is the "first ever" recipient of the SAAHF’s Arthur Chin Aviation Achievement Award.  The Award was presented to the Flying Tigers Association during ceremonies at Association’s 60th Anniversary Reunion, held during the Memorial Day weekend at the Museum of Flight in Seattle, Washington.

#14. Foundation Artist-in-Residence, Roy Grinnell and Foundation Executive Director, Jeff Greene assists AVG Flt. Nurse and Flying Tiger Association Vice President Emma Jane "Red"
Petach Hanks, signs Roy’s aviation art print "The Decisive Moment"  Roy created the dramatic painting commemorating the AVG’s historic defense of the Salween Gorge in honor of the AVG’s 60th Anniversary.  Signed by 23 AVG veterans, the print was created through the SAAHF’s History Through Art Program, and co-published in cooperation with the Museum of Fight.  


MAY 2001
#15.  AVG Armorer, John E. Rumen is seen beside Evergreen Aviation’s Curtiss P-40K Warhawk.  As part of activities held at the Museum of Flight to celebrate the "Flying Tiger’s" 60th Anniversary Reunion,  the nostalgic warbird, painted in the markings of AVG fighter ace, Ken Jernstedt, took to the air and put on a spirited demonstration.  Following AVG service, John returned to duty with the U.S. Army, and as a member of the Army Air Force, returned to combat in China as a member of the Chinese American Composite Wing.  Following a long and distinguished career of service of military service, John retired from the USAF with the rank of Chief Master Sergeant.
