6. The CNAC C-46 Commando transport flown by former Chinese Air Force
fighter ace, turned CNAC “Hump” pilot, Major Arthur Chin. An American
citizen, Major Chin was among a small group of Chinese Americans who in
the early 1930’s volunteered to fight as members of the Chinese Air Force
against the invading Japanese Army. In combat with the Japanese Army and
Navy Air Forces, between August 1937 and December 1939, Major Chin and
two other of these Chinese American “volunteer” fighter pilots, became the
first American fighter aces of the Second World War. |
